About Sue

Starry Sue
I am a visual artist, living and working in Dumfries and Galloway. I was born in Yorkshire, raised in Newcastle upon Tyne and trained at Newcastle Polytechnic in Creative Arts. I also have Masters Degrees from the Universities of both Durham and Cumbria.

I have pursued my career in the Arts through a many-and-varied approach. Originally a ceramicist, I ran a studio at Cluny Warehouse, 36 Lime Street in Byker making fine art sculpture and hand-built domestic ware. At that time I also worked as a creative therapist, using clay as my chosen medium, enabling my clients to explore and develop themselves through creative work.

After giving up 3D work in the mid-nineties I returned to painting and it’s many attendant 2D art forms - pastel, acrylic, watercolour, photography, collage and lino printing. Most recently thanks to a Masters Degree in Contemporary Fine Art at the University of Cumbria, my practice has made an exciting move into film-making. But my love of 3D often creeps back and I'm presently very involved with kinetic sculpture, which I regularly feature in my films. As a contemporary artist and long-time eco warrior I'm also concerned with man and nature, principally focussing on the natural world and our relationship with it.

I welcome commissions whatever the format. There is something very appealing to me about collaboration - weaving my interpretation to an idea and enabling someone to see their mind’s eye image brought to form.
